What would you do?
Some missionaries in a tribe in Africa wanted to help the believing women in the tribe dress more modestly. So they provided blouses donated from members of their supporting churches, because the women in this tribe are usually topless. However, the tribal women were greatly offended at this! Why? Because in their culture, only prostitutes wear blouses! They were very insulted that the missionaries suggest they wear such provocative clothing!
This is only an example of the kind of culture clash you can run into in becoming a tribal missionary. Part of our coursework at New Tribes Missions Institute is how to be prepared when cross cultural issues like this come up in a tribe!
